Dear ISFD Board of Directors:
Everyone can make a picture now. The extraordinary image-making power of AI is not lost on your members. They already know it, because clients arrive with images that are beautiful and frequently unbuildable, and the designer inherits them.
What has not happened yet is the design profession fully taking hold of these tools on its own terms. They are being shaped right now, mostly by people who do not design for a living, or by legacy systems who benefit from maintaining complex, proprietary workflows. If that runs on unanswered, the standard for what counts as a design gets set somewhere other than in our profession.
We built IQ Design for professional designers. Every element is a parameter you control. Change the fabric and the silhouette stays. Change the wood and the joinery stays. What you make connects to real products you can source and specify. That is the difference between a suggestion and a specification.
Our profession does not have time to wait, so we are taking price out of the way and going direct to our industry's most trusted and influential bodies, design associations. After nearly 30 years in association leadership, I know the value and power of groups like yours.
Associations are where this gets decided. A designer working alone adapts to whatever arrives. A profession organized around a shared purpose leads. The people who join ISFD are the ones who show up for the conversation, and that is who we want in the room while this is still being worked out.
This is the time for designers to lead. I want to live in a world with more beauty in ordinary places, more things built to last rather than replaced, more thought given to the objects people live with every day and stop seeing. That world is designed on purpose, by people trained to do it, and it gets built by a profession that steps forward while the decisions are still open.
The Designed Age is IQ Design's association partnership program, and the International Society of Furniture Designers is its first partner. IQ Design donates a full year of Professional Access to its parametric visualization platform to ISFD members: up to 500 passages, each a $348 value, a donation valued at $174,000. Members claim directly at iqdesign.ai/designed-age/ISFD within ninety days of the date of launch, with no credit card and no auto-billing. New ISFD members receive a passage when they join, through the following twelve months. ISFD supplies its channels and its voice; IQ Design supplies everything else: every word, every image, all onboarding and support.
Two pressures define the season. Clients arrive with AI images that are beautiful and frequently unbuildable, and the designer inherits them. And Section 232 tariffs stand at 25 percent today, scheduled for 30 percent on furniture and 50 percent on cabinets and vanities on January 1, 2027. Anyone can make an AI image. Making it real is the job.

IQ Design is a visualization platform built for professional designers. Describe in your own vocabulary. Refine any element. Connect what you see to real products. Parameters hold. Change the wood and the joinery stays. Change the fabric and the silhouette stays. Every visualization is permanently the designer's. The platform learns from a designer's work only with their permission. They choose, every time.
ISFD members do not arrive to a blank slate. The Workflow Library opens with furniture: explore a full collection from one description, refine a design into variations across shape and fabric, and move fabric, color, and shape through the parameters interface.
